Drinking Water...

Drinking water has always been a challenge for me. I’m a caffeine drinker…always have been. It’s definitely something I want to change. If I’m given the option between water, soda, milk, or juice; I’m going to pick soda every time.

I hate to admit that.

I gave soda up for a year and a half after I had my son. He was 10 months old and I came home one evening from work with a bottle of Dr. Pepper and he wanted a drink. Of course, I wouldn’t allow him to have it. At that moment I realized I needed to give soda up.

Even more I realized my son mimicked my actions. He’s three now and that hasn’t changed any.

So I gave soda up February 2013. I felt better, I slept better, my skin had a glow to it and was softer, my teeth felt better and was whiter than usual, my breath smelt better. But surely that wasn’t because of water. I mean how can water have such an effect on your body? It’s just water.

This morning I decided to research more about water and its benefits. Here are my top 5 favorites.

1). Drinking water helps you lose weight because it flushes down the by-products of fat breakdown. Drinking water reduces hunger, it’s an effective appetite suppressant so you’ll eat less.  (Source: www.mangosteen-natural-remedies.com)

2). Look younger with healthier skin. Water helps to replenish skin tissues, moisturizes skin and increases skin elasticity. (Source: www.mangosteen-natural-remedies.com)

3). Better exercise. Drinking water regulates your body temperature. That means you’ll feel more energetic when doing exercises. Water also helps to fuel your muscle. (Source: www.mangosteen-natural-remedies.com)

4). Relieves fatigue. Water is used by the body to flush out toxins and waste products from the body. If your body lacks of water, your heart, for instance, needs to work harder to pump out the oxygenated blood to all cells, so are the rest of the vital organs will be exhausted and so will you. (Source: www.mangosteen-natural-remedies.com)

5). Reduce the risk of cancer. Related to the digestive system, some studies show that drinking a healthy amount of water may reduce the risks of bladder cancer and colon cancer. Water dilutes the concentration of cancer causing agents in the urine and shortens the time in which they are in contact with bladder lining. (Source: www.mangosteen-natural-remedies.com)

Those are some pretty strong facts that really motivates me to drink more water. But can I do it….I don’t know. I know that I have to drink more water.

Here are my tips to drink more water…I’m going to implement these tips myself.

1). Drink a glass of water as soon as you wake up in the morning. I wake up with a dry mouth every morning and instead of water I pick soda, which doesn’t help my dry mouth. Water would be a much better pick-me-up.

2). Carry a water bottle with you at all times. Take it with you to work, school, running errands, kids sporting events, waiting in a doctor’s office, no matter what the situation you can have a bottle with you.

3). Drink a glass with every meal. Instead of soda or another drink go for an ice cold glass of water.

4). Do you find yourself binge eating in the afternoon? If so, next time grab a glass of water and see if that doesn’t help.

5). Add lemon to your water. I love water with lemon.

6). Not a lemon fan? Add other fruits to your water or maybe even cucumber or herbs to your water to add flavor. I even bought a water infuser bottle from Walmart for $10.00.

7). Buy a pretty bottle. I don’t know about you but I love bottles and cups to drink out of. I find that when I do drink water form a bottle, I tend to drink more water during the day.

8). And finally make it a challenge…which is what I plan to do now! Look for tomorrow’s post (Sunday July 12, 2015).

Happy Drinking!

My Trip To Kings Island: AKA Worst Experience Ever

Over the 4th of July holiday weekend I went out of town with my fiancé, his mom and our two boys for a softball tournament. On Sunday before coming home we decided to take the boys to Kings Island. The overall trip was great and everyone had such a fun day. As I've gotten older I realize it's more fun to watch my kids have fun riding rides than it is when I do.
My fiancé's son wanted me to ride The Racer with him. We waited in line maybe ten minutes before our turn. I did worry about my weight and size some during the day with a couple of rides. And this next statement I'm about to say is by no means judgmental. I have no room to talk! The majority of the people I saw at the park were overweight, some very obese and I wondered if they were having any fun. There were a few I saw and thought there was no way they were fitting on most rides, if any of them at all.
Trust me I realize my thinking was wrong and I honestly wasn't trying to be judgmental because I'm in the same boat as they are. But I didn't really realize just how big I was until yesterday.
So back to The Racer, when I got in the car I was too wide to sit in the seats comfortably. I thought oh boy this ride is going to be uncomfortable. I got the seatbelt fastened, but I couldn't get the bar to click close. The girl checking the seats came and said we just need two clicks. She pushed down and we got one click. We tried and tried to get a second and couldn't. I was humiliated! I left in a hurry and started crying once on the exit ramp. I honestly didn't think I was that big, but apparently I was.
I told my fiancé about it. And he assured me I was fine and he thought I was sexy. That's great. I'm lucky. But when I don't feel sexy there's a problem. When I feel disgusted with myself and humiliated because I'm too fat to ride a rollercoaster then you know you need to change things.
My fiancé wanted us to ride a rollercoaster together. I was hesitant but I said okay let's ride Diamond Back. At the front of the line is a seat you have to test out before going forward. I said no way I'm not even trying. That's embarrassing and I know I won't fit. So we went to The Beast. Got in the seat and it was tight. I told Jeremy (fiancé) I'm too fat for this ride too. It took him and an another guy pushing down to get two clicks. It was so tight against me it hurt so badly that I cried during most of the ride.
I believe that was the most embarrassing situation of my life. And Jeremy is so sweet and caring about it. He kept assuring me I was beautiful and he loved me and my body. And that really helps and I know he's trying to help me feel better.
My goal: next year when I go to Kings Island I don't want it to ever cross my mind that I might be too big to ride any of the rides!

The Perfect Pin

When I was looking through my pins trying to decide which would be my next challenge I came across this one!

Pic comes from Social Stylate

I could only do one set and that about did me in! At first I was like there is no way I can do 80 Jumping Jacks...so I decided to break them down.

I did 20 Jumping Jacks in between each workout listed. I saved the 60 second wall sit for last...oh my...after about 20 seconds I was done, but I kept count of how long I had to stand. It took me about 1 minute and 30 seconds to complete a 60 second wall sit.

I've decided instead of moving on to the next pin, I am going to keep working at this workout every day until I can do 20 sit ups without taking a break after 5. And I can do a 60 second wall sit in 60 seconds. Then after I can complete one full set I am going to keep at it until I can do 3 reps. I really hope that by next Sunday January 12, 2014 I am able to do this.

Let's Kick 2014 Off with a Bang!

It's a brand new year! I won't say I'm off to a great start and I won't say I'm off to a bad start. I'm trying and that's all that matters. As far as working out goes...well not that great! I've gone a couple of days with no activity at all! But that's okay! I will get back on the saddle. I am getting back! I have to keep reminding myself that it's not going to happen over night. Working out and being healthy doesn't come naturally to me. I'm not trying to diet and lose weight. I'm trying to change my lifestyle!

Over the past week I have gotten lost in the addicting world of Pinterest. I'm great with planning and thinking...but not the best with the actual follow-through. I'm too tired, stressed, busy, etc. Oh, I'm the queen of excuses.

Like I said in the beginning I'm sharing everything. Good and bad, pretty and ugly. I don't want to give the impression that this came easy to me. It hasn't, it's not. I'm struggling every day with temptation. Every day I have gone over my calories, most days it's less than a hundred calories, but still that's a lot of calories to burn. And tonight, I honestly don't even want to think about how many calories I went over.

Today was the worst day as far as going over calorie count and the foods I ate. Here is what my meal plan today looked like.

3 slices of turkey bacon (Kroger brand) 105 calories
1 cup Sausage gravy 360 calories (now, I don't think I had 1 cup, but I didn't measure it out. I would rather be over than under).
1 buttermilk biscuit 103 calories

4 deviled eggs 256 calories (I ate 2, was still hungry so I ate 2 more)

We took my sister to her favorite restaurant for her birthday which is Golden Corral. That's a bad, bad, bad mistake for someone trying to make healthy decisions. It's all you can eat!!

15 pieces of popcorn shrimp 130 calories
2 yeast rolls @ 195 calories each=390
half a serving spoon full of Thai Style white meat with chicken and rice 97 calories
BBQ chicken only ate about 1/3 of it. 163 calories
4 chocolate covered strawberries 192 calories
1 glass of Mt. Dew 170 calories

Kit Kat Fun Size 70 calories

My goal is 1,490 calories per day. If you add the above up I had 2,036 calories...yikes! I did complete a workout tonight I am about to share, that roughly burned 150 calories, which then brought my total to 1886 calories, which is 396 calories over what I'm supposed to eat during one day. So, okay, not great, yet not horrible. I did get a cardio exercise in. It will keep getting better from here...I hope :)

I recently joined an awesome group on Facebook! (Click on the pic to join the group)

Natasha Krystolovich is the group leader and she is awesome. She is always posting motivation, healthy recipes, and she has kicked off a 90 day challenge on January 2, 2014. The challenge is daily excerices. She always started a challenge on Pinterest. In 90 days do as many of the workouts on your Pinterest board as possible and place them on a new board once complete. I have started this.
Check out my Pinterest boards
I will post the challenges and my nightly workout in another post :)
Happy 2014!

My journey: Day 1

I have struggled with weight my entire life. I used to blame everything in the world-where I lived, genetics, the way I was raised, depression, slow metabolism, etc.

Not anymore!

Now I blame myself. I AM THE REASON I'M FAT-yes, I said the "F" word.

My journey to lose weight first began Fall of 2010. I began walking at the park every single day-rain or shine, cold or hot. I also began counting my calories. I was doing great. I was so proud of myself! I had never stuck to anything like this. I realized I wasn't on another fast track to lose weight, I wasn't on a diet. I was changing my unhealthy lifestyle to a more healthier lifestyle.

Nope I didn't relapse. I got pregnant :)

After my son was born I lost nearly all the weight I had gained. But I had picked up some horrible eating habits while pregnant. I ate everything I saw. 5 months after my son was born I had gained all of the my baby weight back, putting me at the heaviest I've been in my life-yikes! But I still didn't make any true efforts to changing my lifestyle. I kept eating fast food, drinking pop, etc.

My son is 20 months old tomorrow. I need to make some changes, for myself and most importantly for him!!

Now I'm going to do something most women never would do! Share my journey-yes-and that means sharing my weight, my before pics, pics of my progress...and my after pics :) I will share my set backs, because I know me well enough to know I will have set backs...and that's okay the important thing is that I accept those set backs and move forward, learn from them.

I think it's important to have reasons for wanting to be healthy. The number one reason should, of course, be yourself, but sometimes we need extra motivation. So, here are my reasons.

1). I want to be around to watch my son grow up, get married, start a life of his own.
2). I want my son to lead a healthy lifestyle.
3). I want to look in the mirror and like what I see.
4). I want to feel beautiful and comfortable.
5). I want to wear shorts-above my knees.
6). I want to wear a two piece bikini-something I've never done.
7). My blood pressure has been going high lately. I'm 27, I'm too young to be on blood pressure medicine.
8). I was nice legs, toned arms, and a sexy belly :)

And I'm sure I could go on and on. But there is a few of my reasons.

I had a dream the other night, on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2013, I can't remember the details of this dream. I do remember my aunt getting me some workout stuff I had been wanting for Christmas. After I woke up from this dream I knew I had to start NOW!! I could say I'll start on January 1, 2014. But that's not a Monday, and I know myself all too well. I will say ah, I'll wait until Monday. Then something will happen and I'll say I will start next Monday. Before I know it, half of January is over. No point in starting today. February 1st will be a good day to start.

So, nope. I am starting today. December 26, 2013.

Today I weight in at a whopping 260 pounds. I have some major changes to make with my lifestyle. So let's get started-no better time than now!
